Video and Tips for Finding Your Art Style

Finding your Art Style

In my mission to develop my artistic style I’ve been watching You Tube videos to see how different artists recommend we approach this challenge.

As I watched each video, I made some high level notes of the key takeaways I got from each one. Below is my summary from each video, and I’ve also embedded each video if you want to explore the topic more.

All of these artists have similar ideas that overlap. But there’s two main approaches for how to find your style:

Go Looking For It

Let It Happen Naturally

I was very much firmly entrenched in the Go Looking For It camp. I’ve been following artists on Instagram and doing YouTube tutorials, and getting inspired by the look and feel of their art. But the more I do this searching for my style, the more I feel I’m getting further and further away from what feels natural.

Now I think the best way forward is to do draw in the style I have now, and keep practicing to see how my natural style evolves as my skills improve. I’m going to join a few art challenges and see where this creative play takes me.
