People Sketches: May

Culver City Urban Sketching

Last month I published my first in a series of people I’ve encountered during wandering around the local area in Culver City. I did another group this month as warm-up practice for some urban sketching.

Sweaty red T-shirt man lumbering up the hill.

Bored lady TJs shopper waiting at the till.

A worn out thirsty hiker ordering a drink.

An old lady dog walker dressed head to toe in pink.

Back again to TJs the flowers this time to smell.

Just before a sporty spice does battle with parking hell.

The motto of the story is, don’t turn your back on me if you’re wandering around Culver City, or else I may take your photo to paint you!

I didn’t intentionally use the same art style for these. Instead I just used my natural sketching style, and now that I have 12 of these in this series, I can see the similarities in my approach.

Hot Press Paper

I did a couple of these paintings on my new Hot Press Paper acquisition. It’s definitely easier to draw on this smooth paper, but I don’t like the lack of texture during the painting stage.

Cold Press Paper

These were all done on different makes of cold press paper. Not as easy to draw on, but such a nicer texture when painted.
